5 ways to reduce eye strain when gaming

When it comes to gaming, eye strain is a common problem for many gamers. In fact, eye strain can occur after just two hours of gaming. And if you're someone who wears glasses, your eyes may be screaming for help even sooner.

There's no denying that gaming can be addictive. But there's also no denying that gaming can be tough on your eyes. If you don't take care of your peepers, you could end up with some serious eye problems down the road.

So what can you do to reduce eye strain and keep your gaming sessions comfortable? Here are five tips:

1. Make sure your screen is at the correct distance from your eyes.

This is probably the most important tip. If your screen is too close to your eyes, it can cause eye strain.

Why? Well, when you focus on something up close, your eye muscles have to work harder. And when your eye muscles work harder, they get tired. This can lead to eye fatigue and headaches.

To avoid this, make sure your screen is about an arm's length away from your eyes. For reference, your screen should be about 28 to 35 inches (70 to 90 centimeters) away from your eyes.

2. Reduce the amount of glare on your screen by using a matte finish or placing an anti-glare filter over your screen.

Glare can be a real pain, especially if you're trying to game in a bright room. It's like trying to focus on a target while someone is shining a flashlight in your eyes.

I don't know about you but I can't focus on anything when there's a bright light shining in my face. If you want to reduce eye strain, it's important to reduce the amount of glare on your screen.

This can be as simple as using a matte finish or placing an anti-glare filter over your screen. This will help reduce the amount of light that's reflecting off your screen.

Or it can be as simple as adjusting the brightness and contrast of your screen... which we'll be discussing in the next point.

3. Adjust the brightness and contrast of your screen to reduce strain on your eyes.

If you find yourself squinting at your screen, it's probably because the brightness is too high. The same goes for the contrast.

High levels of brightness and contrast can be tough on your eyes. What it does is it makes the pixels on your screen stand out more. This can cause eye fatigue and headaches.

To avoid this, it's important to adjust the brightness and contrast of your screen. You want to find a balance that's comfortable for your eyes.

You can usually find these settings in the display menu of your computer or gaming console. For reference, the brightness should be set to around 60-70 percent and the contrast should be set to around 50-60 percent.

4. Take breaks often to give your eyes a rest.

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Just like any other muscle in your body, your eye muscles need a break every now and then.

If you're gaming for long periods of time, make sure you take breaks every 20 minutes or so. This will give your eye muscles a chance to rest.

During your break, you can do something else like take a walk or grab a snack. Just make sure you're not staring at a screen the whole time.

I know sometimes you can be too into the game to take a break. But trust me, your eyes will thank you later.

BTW, if you need someone to remind you to take a break, why not try out GlassX - the world's finest smart glasses design for gamers like you.

5. Blink regularly to keep your eyes from drying out.

This is another one that's pretty self-explanatory. When you're focused on something, you tend to blink less.

And when you don't blink, your eyes can start to feel dry and irritated. To avoid this, it's important to blink regularly.

Some people like to set a timer to remind them to blink. Others like to take a break every 20 minutes or so to give their eyes a chance to blink.

But if you're really into the game, you might not be able to take a break that often. In that case, try this little trick: every time you kill an enemy, take a break to blink.

It might sound silly but it's a great way to remember to keep your eyes healthy while gaming!

Conclusion
